Comparison of Hamara's Vision with the Mozilla Manifesto
Comparing our vision with the Mozilla Manifesto
01 - The Internet is an Integral part of modern life- a key component in education, communication, collaboration, business, entertainment and society as a whole.
We think on similar lines and we are striving up on to enabling access to technology to those who have no access to it due to the barriers such as availability, accessibility, language etc. Our efforts on the front of making Hamara Linux available in many languages, and by making it reach to many people. Here we are enabling the Internet technology available to people. And in this effort, Mozilla Firefox , Thunderbird and many Mozilla projects are an integral part of this enabling of Internet technology.
02 - The Internet is a global public resource that must remain open and accessible.
We think on the same lines and we have stated our opinions on the same a few times in the past. https://wiki.hamaralinux.org/wiki/index.php/Hamara%27s_Position_on_Net_Neutrality
03 - The Internet must enrich the lives of individual Human beings.
Our efforts are on the forefront of enabling this enrichment of lives of Individual Human beings. We have been supporting various other community projects which enable access to Internet technologies for other people with projects such as https://diasp.in/
04 - Individual's security and privacy on the Internet are fundamental and must not be treated as optional.
We acknowledge this and take this very seriously. We have been striving to protect the principle of Internet Privacy from the very beginning of our project. With some of our collaborated projects that we started with Diasp.in , https://chat.diasp.in/, we continuously strive to keep this principle in effect.
05 - Individuals must have the ability to shape the Internet and there own experiences on it.
We acknowledge the efforts being put by the Mozilla foundation for the same. And we together are striving to give every power to an Individual have the ability to shape the Internet.
06 - The effectiveness of the Internet as a public resource depends upon interoperability (protocols, data formats, content), innovation and decentralized participation worldwide.
At diasp.in, we enabled communications using protocols such as XMPP & the recently got famous Matrix protocol. Also the technological design of diasp.in is such that it enables decentralized communication with other Diaspora users using other pods.
07 - Free and Open Source software promotes the development of the Internet as a Public resource
The whole idea of Hamara Project is based around the use and development of Free and Open Source Software. Todays internet is powered up and is flourishing because of Free and Open Source Software. And we want to strive to keep it as a public resource.
08 - Transparent community- based process promotes participation, accountability and trust.
Transparency in operations is important for any project to build trust and accountability. The more you involve the community the better. At hamara our discussions and planning happen in public via our IRC channel / Matrix Room and on our mailing lists. Issues are tracked and can be voted for on our bugzilla where anyone can register and participate.
09 - Commercial involvement in the development of the internet brings many benefits; a balance between commercial profit and public benefit is critical.
We believe on the famous quote "Software is Free, People are not" So we understand the benefits that commercial involvement brings to open source projects and vice versa. We also understand that sometimes some people have to volunteer there time for free for actually evolving an open source project out of there interest and being paid nothing in return. They contribute just for there sheer love of making the software happen. We have a similar relation in that aspect with TechBlue Software. Although TBS is a commercial effort, use of open source tools is at the forefront at the organization for daily operations and development as well as commercial support services in the market.
10 - Magnifying the public benefit aspects of the Internet is an important goal, worthy of time, attention and commitment.
And We need to make sure that this aspect remains beneficial to the people enriching there lives in positive ways. And we together are committed towards keeping this aspect intact.
